Play a word game with a friend online
Play with a friend is the two-player race in Rule Stack, a free word game that runs in your browser. You each play on your own phone or computer, wherever you are. You get the same rounds and the same rules, and nobody waits: you each climb at your own pace.
Start a gameHow to start a game
- Open Rule Stack and choose Play with a friend.
- Type your name and choose Create a game. You get a 4-letter code.
- Send your friend the code or the link. The link opens the join screen with the code already filled in.
- When you're both in, choose a game of 10 or 20 rounds and start.
The rules of the race
- Each round has a category and a stack of rules. Your word must be in the category and pass every rule.
- Whoever stacks a round first scores +50 on top of the word's points.
- A stacked word is gone for the other player, so you can't both use it.
- There are no skips and no lives. Every round must be stacked.
- You get 2 hints a game. The first shows the first and last letter of a word that still fits, and the next reveals one more letter of that word.
- When you've both played the last round, the higher score wins. Equal scores are a draw.
What a round looks like
Category: Fruit
- 5 letters or fewer
- Has the letter A
You type MANGO and stack it first, so you score the word's points plus 50. MANGO is now gone for your friend, who can't use it and has to find another word, such as APPLE. Then you're both on to your next rounds, each at your own speed.
Common questions
Does my friend need to install anything?
No. The game runs in a web browser on a phone or computer, and your friend only needs the code or the link.
Can we play from different places?
Yes. Each player uses their own device over the internet, so you don't need to be in the same room.
How many players can join?
Two. A game is always one player against one other.
What happens if one of us loses connection?
You can rejoin with the same code while the game lasts. A room forgets its game 3 hours after the last message.
Playing on your own?
Rule Stack also has an endless solo game, a daily stack and more modes. See how to play Rule Stack for worked examples of the rules.
